At R. A. Glass, our optometrists have many years of experience in assessing all sorts of eye conditions. We encourage anyone who develops a sudden eye problem, whether you are an existing patient or not, to make us their first port of call regarding their eye health.
Our emergency eye clinic or NI PEARS (Northern Ireland Primary Eyecare Assessment and Referral Service) is a service provided by R. A. Glass Optometrists to help anyone who develops a sudden eye problem, making sure you get the care you need quickly and easily. We should be your first port of call if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
• Acute Red eye(s) or eyelids
• Irritation and inflammation of the eye
• Pain and/or discomfort in the eyes, or around the eye area
• Sudden reduction in vision
• Recent onset or sudden increase in flashing lights and/or floaters
• Suspected foreign body in the eye
Rather than waiting for a doctor's appointment, access to this emergency eye care is available to everyone aged 5 and over who is registered with a GP in Northern Ireland.
NI PEARS appointments are available during our normal working hours, and you will be seen within 48 hours. We will, however, endeavour to see you on the day if the optometrist's clinic allows.
Please be advised, if you do not qualify for an emergency NI PEARS assessment, a private fee will apply depending on your condition.
If you are unsure whether your symptoms qualify you for an NI PEARS examination, please contact your nearest R. A. Glass practice and we’ll be happy to advise.
